PRESS RELEASE: Waltham Forest charity fighting food poverty with comedy

Partnered with Waltham Forest’s The CentrE17 and food bank, Eat or Heat, Canned Laughter announces its fifth show

London, 23 April, 2018: Following four consistently sold out shows, East London-based comedy charity night, Canned Laughter, have announced their fifth show for Friday 25th May.

Launched by three friends Kenny, Ali and Helen in October 2017, Canned Laughter run bi-monthly stand-up comedy nights, from which 100% of the proceeds go to Eat or Heat, a Waltham Forest-based food bank charity for local families. Eat or Heat was established in 2014 to tackle local food poverty among families who were making regularly making the difficult choice between heating their homes and feeding their families.

Following in the footsteps of Nick Helm, Tom Allen, Aisling Bea and Tiff Stevenson, the May show will welcome Beth Vyse (MC), Jordan Brookes, Helen Bauer and Athena Kugblenu to the stage in its latest cohort, with 3 acts TBC.

Ticket prices range between £5-7, though a ticket alone is not enough to gain you entry. Each of the 120 attendees is tasked with bringing at least 5 food-bank-friendly items for donation (these include tins and jars of food, as well as tampons, nappies and other toiletries).

Having put on four shows to date, Canned Laughter has raised a total of £2,500 for Eat or Heat and each show has stocked the food bank for an average of 2-3 weeks. The shows are held at The CentrE17, Walthamstow’s newest theatre space which is run by local volunteers.

Time: Doors 7:30pm, show 8:00-10:00pm
