About Canned Laughter

It all started when…

Three friends, with a mutual love of comedy, sent an email to Gary Nash, Chair at Eat or Heat, on 29 August 2017, with an idea. Canned Laughter was born not long after, with one goal in mind: to raise integral food & funds for London's food banks.

In Waltham Forest, we run bi-monthly stand-up comedy nights, from which 100% of the proceeds go to local food bank, Eat or Heat. Eat or Heat was established in 2014 to tackle local food poverty among families who were making regularly making the impossible choice between heating their homes and feeding their families.

We are super proud to partner not only with Eat or Heat, but also with the team behind community The CentrE17, a theatre and community space that Canned Laughter is proud to call home. In the past, our stage has been graced by some truly amazing guests, including Nick Helm, Lolly Adefope, Angelos Epithemiou, Aisling Bea, Ellie Taylor, Desiree Burch, Tom Allen and Russell Kane!

Canned Laughter are the best! Night after night the line-up of comics is stellar.

If you want a great night out, for not much money and help a local charity, this is the place to come.

We can’t thank Kennet Tanner, Ali Severs-Ruiz and Amelia Vickery, enough for all the support and love they have shown Eat or Heat. Huge love and thanks to Max and Ruth Peters (the team behind The CentrE17), for providing the wonderful venue.

In November 2018, we opened up shop in Tooting…

It felt only right to share the magic that comes with swapping tins for amazing stand up comedy, so we have run a number of nights in partnership with Tooting Tram and Social.

Canned Laughter is all about supporting families and food banks alike, so we have partnered with Wandsworth Foodbank, a food bank local to Tooting that provided 4,712 3-day emergency food supplies to people referred in crisis last year.

With sadly more people than ever needing support from Wandsworth Foodbank, we so appreciate fundraising like this which enables us to continue providing emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
